Joinrite,
Joinrite produces general purpose tube fittings used in plumbing and hydraulics. The company has developed a new design for the fittings incorporating a special O-ring and set of jaws for clamping which keep piping from leaking. Joinrite uses SYNTHESIS to increase productivity and improve accuracy in producing drawings associated with the full line of fittings. Michael Lauter, project engineer, estimates that over 3,000 drawings will be needed to complete the line, showing variations in size; style; types of unions, "T's" and elbows; and male and female connections. Different materials such as brass, titanium and plastic add to the number of variations possible. Joinrite believes the main benefit of SYNTHESIS is the high degree of automation it offers. Drawings to scale can be completed in 20 minutes, giving engineers extremely fast feedback in the process of creating a new design. SYNTHESIS also creates completely accurate drawings because it automatically refigures dimensions based on a design change, without human intervention. Even with extremely fine detail, SYNTHESIS can produce an accurate drawing in 20 minutes. Lauter estimates a draftsman using AutoCAD would probably take 18 times longer and complete accuracy would not be guaranteed.
"People come into the lab and are really impressed with our high level of automation. With SYNTHESIS, I just type in the parameters. If I like what I see, I hit a button and it's mine." Michael Lauter
